He was born in a family of a photographer. From his 3 to 12 years he lived with his aunt in pre-war Berlin where he attended a school. He studied at the Department of a Photograph of the Secondary Technical School in Bratislava (1942 – 1944) and then at the State Graphic School in Prague (1945 – 1948). He worked mainly on works of monumental creation in architecture with Bartek. They participated on several competitions, they won several awards – most important – Diploma of laureate and silver medal of the world exhibition of realised projects in the year 1989 in Sofia and a special prize of Mayor of Vienna which won the whole collective of authors for realisation of the pedestrian zone in Trnava. Jozef Dóka was also devoted to chamber creation (still lives, mainly by oil). Free creation retains mainly town Trnava and his transformations. The last time he represented himself on the exhibition Trnava 5 (1998) in West-Slovakian museum in Trnava.
