Call for Artists and Curators

In the form of an open call Jan Koniarik Gallery in Trnava (GJK) offers premises for Slovak as well as foreign artists and curators to implement their projects. This call is intended exclusively for professional artist, students or graduates of the universities focused on visual art and each project has to have a curator.

The deadline for the applications for exhibitions is September 30 of a respective year. In the following month the projects are presented in front of the professional exhibition committee of GJK. The committee shall assess and recommend a specific project for the exhibition plan for the following calendar year based on the thematic contexts of the both exhibition premises.

The applications for the projects to be included in the exhibition plan have to include:
• a completed application form - application for an exhibition
• curricula vitae and an overview of implemented projects
• the concept and conceptual framework of the project submitted in a written form
• the portfolio or a visual attachment reflecting the applicants' works of art
• a description of technical and construction requirements and preliminary estimated budget

The call concerns two exhibition premises of GJK. The Koppel Villa premises follow the original dramaturgy which suited the needs related to presentation of the individual exhibitions of leading Slovak artists with regard to the regional context. However, the long-term purpose of these premises is to map the development and transformation of the media of hanging pictures, new media or spatial objects. The other exhibition premises presented as Synagogue – Center of Contemporary Art are ideal for the projects primarily employing the specificities of sacral space and their reflections, or, on the contrary, the projects focusing on their neutralisation (from monumental implementations to works of rather intimate nature). Both premises are also suitable for presenting group exhibitions.
Besides exhibition premises, GJK also provides technical equipment, assists in the implementation of the exhibition, transportation of the work and the PR project. The submitted project may be sent electronically to info@gjk.sk or by mail to:
