The two titles for the exhibition imly its two parts, both from collections of Považská Galéria Umenia in Žilina. Both the Považská Galéria Umenia in Žilina and the Galéria Jána Koniarka in Trnava have their 30 th anniversaries simultaneously in 2006 and the exhibition is the first one to celebrate it. The exhibition is to show the collections and aquisition of the PGU Žilina as well as role of this art museum in Slovak visual arts in the second half of the 20th century.
The exhibition shows selection of the artworks from the second half of the 20th century: the „Time-Spatial Sculpture“ part being installed at the Permanent Exhibition of the Sculptural Works of Ján Koniarek (J. Bartusz, J. Jankovič, V. Kompánek, J. Kostka, J. Mýtny, R. Pribiš, A. Rudavský, P. Tóth, R. Uher), it interconnects the art of the late 20th century with that of Ján Koniarek, the founder of Slovak modern sculpture, who lived and worked in the first half of the 20th century. The Synagogue – Centre of Contemporary Art shows works in new media represented by such artists as P. Fichta Čierna, M. Kern, J. Koller, D. Lehocká, T. Mašín, P. Meluzin, R. Ondák, K. Pichler, P. Rónai, T. Ruller, R. Sikora, J. Žáčková and J. Želibská. The „PGU Sampler“ exhibition presents works from the 1980’s and 1990’s.
The two-part exhibition is organized by the Galéria Jána Koniarka in Trnava in collaboration with the Považská Galéria Umenia in Žilina, its curators being also from these art-museums – the works for the Time- Spatial Sculpture were selected by Milan Mazúr and Vladimír Beskid, whereas those for PGU Sampler chose Mira Putišová with Vladimír Beskid. The exhibition presents the continuity of Slovak art from the second half of the 20th century until present day, emphasising the aspect and role of art-museums, which through their acquisition and collections play a crucial role in creating the Slovak cultural herritage.
