Ambrušová Edita

Edita Ambrušová studied at the Department of drawing and painting of the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava (Martin Benka, Maximilián Schurmann) and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna (Carl Fahringer and Herbert Boeck). After successful beginning in portrait creation and landscape painting she devoted to illustrator and graphic, sacred and profane creation (1950 – 1960). During her stay in Trnava series of oils and graphics inspired by life in Slovak “little Rome” were made. In the second half of sixties and early seventies she worked on important monumental works - window-pane in the Cathedral of St. Emeram in Nitra and large-scale tapestries with theme of Great Moravia. Genre structure of her work was completed with variety of still lives. In the nineties, together with her daughter – artist Johana Ambrušová, she devoted to creation of icons of Slovak and Slavic saints.
