Jurča Joseph

*23 March 1925 Paris – †2005 Trnava

He began to study at the Ceramic trade school in Modra. At that time artistic educational system in Slovakia was forming, so after a short period at a building school he passed to newly established Secondary arts and craft school in Bratislava. After graduation he studied at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (prof. Bedřich Stefan and Jan Kavan). During holidays he attended studios of Július Balogh and Ján Koniarek. Creation of sculptor Joseph Jurča ranges from chamber plastic art to monumental sculptural works, from free creation to decorative completion of interior and exterior. From materials he most used metal, terracotta or glazed ceramic. He worked also with gypsum, wood, stone and plastics. From motives he used theme of woman but he also used pure geometric forms and abstraction.
