Milly Dezider

*7 August 1906, Kyjov – †1 September 1971, Bratislava

He studied at the School of Applied Arts in Prague (1926 – 1933). He worked at the Department of Visual Education of the Slovak Technical University (1946), at the Institute for Drawing and Painting by the Faculty of Education of Slovak University (1947 – 1949), at the Academy of Fine Arts. His creative beginnings were influenced by two factors – warm relationship to the native region (he came from the environment of Ruthenian ethnic group in eastern Slovakia). Prague was the second source of inspiration. Author´s art was given by open sympathy to cubist-expression; his source was one of the most important representatives of Czech sensual paintings – Jan Zrzavý. From Zrzavý came also Milly returnable iconographic motive of errant woman, errant crowd of people through indefinite, imaginative landscape as an encrypted message to contemporary political events. Figures were involved in the natural framework. Milly painted mainly imaginary women figures, processions of pilgrims, unpopulated countries. Fro Slovak art he discovered eastern-Slovakian country with her melancholic colours and forms as a bearer of a deeper poetic content whereby his creation got importance in contemporary and generation context. After the World War II motives of war damped out in works. In the fifties and sixties of 20th century visual and graphic cycles were about tragic fate of the village Tokajík. Since the half of sixties he mainly concentrated on landscape-painting. He received several prizes. He individually exhibited in Prešov, Bratislava, Liptovský Mikuláš, Košice, Prague and Budapest. Exhibitions of collected work he had in Bratislava, Dolný Kubín, Svidník, Banská Bystrica, Trenčín. In the year 1983 a permanent exposition of author´s work was set up in the Museum of Ukrainian culture in Svidník.
