Nemčík Július

*12 November 1909, Lipníky pri Prešove – †7 January 1986, Bratislava

Artist Nemčík studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (1936 – 1942). He participated on exhibitions of the Association of Slovak Artists. He was a foundation member and a chairman of the association of eastern-Slovakian artists Svojina in Košice (1945 – 1948), member of the group Život (1963 – 1971). In the years 1942 – 1945 he lived alternately in Prešov and Prague. At home he painted genre scenes from village and small-town environment, expressive realistic way with a slight exaggeration in manuscript and in colour. In Prague he painted refugees, exiles and homeless people. In the later period he devoted to still life painting and historic painting. In his works Majerník brush handwriting can be felt. He received several prizes. He individually exhibited in galleries and museums in Prešov, Bratislava, Ružomberok, Humenné, Michalovce, Spišská Nová Ves, Košice, Komárno, Trnava, Nitra, Dunajská Streda. Abroad he exhibited in Kiev, Ostrava, Sofia, Berlin, Vienna, Alexandria, Cairo, Moscow, Tart and Budapest.
