Šaloun Ladislav Jan

*1870 Prague (Czech Republic) - †1946 Prague

He studied sculpture at Prague Academy led by Bohuslav Schnirch. He was a member of the Association of Artists Mánes, the Union of Artists and Czech Academy (1912). In the years 1906 – 1914 he worked as a professor at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. He was an important representative of Czech Art Nouveau Symbolism. Among the most important works include Memorial of Jan Hus in Old Town Square in Prague (1915), sculptural decoration in buildings of Insurance company in Prague (1903) and First Czech Security Bank (1905), sculptures in Hořice. His work was influenced by August Rodin.
