He participated on establishment of the Gallery of youth in 1958. At the beginning he linked to European art, especially the early works of P. Picasso and P. Cézanne what expressed in drawing and painting concentration on composition building and vibrant colouring in his works. He was attracted by the problem of anatomical cubism (Mother, 1957). His top work is the picture Furious Job (1959 – 1960) which was created during author’s terminal illness as a metaphor for the tragic individual fate and social events. Ernest Špitz died after the completion of this work in 1960.
