Štefunko Fraňo

*1903, Vlčkovce pri Trnave - † 1974, Martin

In his youth he was taught to work with chisel also by Ján Koniarek. He was taught carving in state learning workshop in Stará Turá (1922 – 1925), studied carving and utility sculpture on the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. He worked as a professor at Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (1949). His portrait work is characterized by sober, factual transcript from displayed. Portraits are characteristic by civil and lyrical expression, he has chosen the way of realistic expression, clear form readability. Often he descended to a superficial description, to naturalistic elements. Later, at the end of creation, popular expression and ethnographic fineness began to dominate.
