The term „living scuplture“ as the title of solo exhibition of Juraj Bartusz and considering it the axis of concept of the show was chosen as a definition of intermedia in his work, using media of sculpture, object art, conceptual and performance art. The term „living sculpture“ metaforically refers also to other key concepts of his artistic approach: time, body, matter, figure, scuplture, volume, shape, gesture, touch. The title also refers to the historical term „living sculpture“ (since 1961) that stands for wide scale of art works where the boundaries between the subject of the artist and the object of art – the actual art work – cease to exist. The solo show of Juraj Bartusz aspires to valuable contribution to the hot discussion about contemporary sculpture.
Lucia Gregorová

Juraj Bartusz (1933) studied scuplture in Prague where he in 1961 graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1967 – 71 he was, and since 1990 became again, member of Czechoslovak Concretist´s Club. His work was influential for the development of neo-constructivist sculpture and minimalist tendency in Slovak art, which goes back to the sixties of the 20th century. However, he is also the relevant protagonist of conceptual and performance art. Since 1990 Bartusz taught at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, in 1992 he gained the academic title of professor.
He lives and works in Košice (SK) where he teaches at the Faculty of art and intermedia of the Technical University as one of its founding members.
