The paintings exhibition is entitled “Oscillation“, ergo “Rezgés“ (in Hungarian), as the author Róbert Almási has been living and working in the municipality Moravské Kračany by the town of Dunajská Streda for a long time. This is his first solo exhibition in Jan Koniarek Gallery, if we do not take into account his participation in group exhibitions mostly installed in the Western Slovakian Museum including his selective exhibition in 2009. Robert Almási belongs to authors with an influence on public opinion in Slovak-Hungarian culture, i.e. he is among mainstream artists.

Róbert Almási is a professional artist of main stream, however, he is also professional in the sense that he has always made a living as an artist; he was never forced to take any part-time job “to survive”. Of course, this also affects the artistic expression which has to deliver a positive message and the choice of hugely popular motives. Robert Almási has chosen the landscape, female and male body, trees and horses as his essential means of expression. These are modified, taking different forms of drawing syntheses or colourful substitutions, whereby we feel, that this combination acts like an inexhaustible source. When we finally feel that everything has been said, Robert Almási surprises us with a new format, unconventional composition or unexpected variety of colours. In his works, Robert Almási has developed the technique of acrylic on canvas, or on a solid board. He blends together coloured areas with drawing, and thus, using a simple shortcut, he determines the painting’s essential idea. He applies the effect of aerial perspective, illusion of mirror image and sometimes fancy additional gold plating of painting. After first years of seeking his own expression, some positive bravura appeared in his works. I intentionally talk about bravura, not about mannerism, which is self-destructive for many artists.

Besides creating his own art, since completing his university education, he has been helping young artists with their first steps and recognition by the general public. He organizes local exhibitions, symposia and different meetings of painters with art lovers. He participated in the birth of Art Camp in Topoľníky, where besides working with professional painters, he works with young people. For many years he has been the leading personality of International Symposium in Jahodná, in which besides local artists, dozens of artists from abroad (from Austria, Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, France to Japan) have participated. Since 1989 he has been the President of Association of Western Slovakia Visual Artists (AWSVA), which has over 170 standing members. Besides his exhibition activities, biennial ERÁTO, biennial ANOTHER COUNTRY as well as annual AWSVA exhibition, he has also organized study tours for the members of AWSVA, where they can gather new knowledge for their work. He is the Vice-President of Board of Trustees of the Gallery of Contemporary Hungarian Artists in Dunajská Streda, in so-called Vermes Villa. He has held dozens of solo exhibitions both in Slovakia and abroad.

The solo exhibition OSCILLATION is an author's statement about seeking his own artistic expression. The author “oscillates” between Slovakia and Hungary, between town and countryside, between towns of Trnava and Dunajská Streda, between female body and landscape, between line and surface. Róbert Almási is a bohemian of present day. During his whole life he has been dealing solely with art and living for art. At the beginning of 2018 he is celebrating his 70th birthday. By holding the solo exhibition, the Trnava Self-Governing Region and Jan Koniarek Gallery would like to thank the author for his rich artistic activities. During the opening of the exhibition, the first monograph of Róbert Almási, from the edition of Collection of Slovak Art, will be brought to life. It was published by the Trnava Self-Governing Region in cooperation with Jan Koniarek Gallery.
