Exhibition project called Deforma is the second solo exhibition of Bratislava sculptor František Bohunický who belongs to the young generation. His work ranges from bronze figural objects and geometric configurations to interactive objects. Regarding the content, he elaborates a narrative aspect based on personal mythology.

The title of the exhibition is not only inspired by a formal characterisation of the pieces. More importantly, it defines the creative approach which has been characteristic of the author since 2011. Back then, sculptor František Bohunický started a collaboration with the graphic designer Marek Sabo, which was mainly a reaction to a deteriorating and disused situation of town street furniture. They perceived it as a memorial of its former function. By applying new contrasting paint coating as well as adding invasive forms, they recreated its original meaning (e.g. activities “PINKFORMA” - pink coating of shabby town street furniture, “DEFARMA” - marking bus stops by stylised animals, or “DEADFARMA” - symbolic burial of animals from the previous activity in a form of a colourful symbol on the pavement).

This approach is being updated at the Synagogue exhibition and the etymology of the term “deforma” is relevant as well. The prefix “de-“ is a Latin prefix meaning from, out of as well as opposite, contrary. “Forma” means a shape or form. This analytical approach, in which the fundamental form/idea is transformed into a configuration of smaller forms as media of meaning, is the basis of majority of the exhibited pieces.

The author has also prepared several new works for the Synagogue (bronze objects and silicon busts). His interest in the change of perception of artistic stimuli by parenthood, self-reflection and searching for the “right” upbringing methods his children as well as issues of sex and body culminate in these works. The concept of the exhibition is completed with works from the author’s “kitchen” (studies of individual objects and interactive geometric de-forms) which reflect the background of the creative process.
