pozvanka-1

[con]Text is an independent solo exhibition of sculptor Klaudia Korbelič, held from January 25, 2018 to March 25, 2018, prepared as a site-specific installation for the exhibition spaces of the Synagogue – Centre of Contemporary Art. Klaudia Korbelič (*1990) belongs to the young generation of visual artists performing both in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Her works fall into two lines – classical sculpture, which undergoes mechanical and performative deformation, and site-specific installations and objects. She finds motives in the presence as well as in the past. She deals with the issues of army, sci-fi, architecture principles, and the status of her contemporaries and their future. Interaction with the audience, and the process of creation, transformation and fading of a sculptural artefact are among the key features of her works.

Her site-specific installation named [con]Text is going to be presented in the premises of the Synagogue – Centre of Contemporary Art. The project of [con]Text exhibition includes a series of inflatable objects, which appear to parasitize on the Synagogue´s architecture, fill the gaps between the posts separating the nave space from the aisles. The mass of material creates certain [im]material, inflated, slightly waving sculptures expanding in the space and wrapping its architecture. The overall installation, distantly reminding the stained-glass technique, was created from the materials the author works with in her studio in Brno. These materials, such as bubble wrap, bagging film, photographic film, plastics, adhesive tapes, etc., are either incorporated in her sculptural works, or are to cover them during the creative work process. Common consumer materials that can be found in the author´s studio are presented in a new context, transferred into the Synagogue premises, setting up a dialogue with them.
Her intervention creates an impression of unstableness, obscurity and ephemerality. It reflects the Synagogue space and embodies the atmosphere of the place of reverence. [con]Text conveys several layers and meanings. The intervention seeks to introduce a site-specific reaction to the space and former designation of the Synagogue, and to underline its genius loci with a certain amount of pathos, fragility, temporariness and finiteness, while referring to itself, to the contemporary art production and creation process. The installation also includes an audio track, or a certain modern “prayer at work”, which was composed in the studio in Brno, and which depicted the sounds during work and production.

The performance of a Czech visual artist David Helán (*1979) named Content-po (Concept end of contemplation), which corresponds to the exhibition topic and was created with reference to it, will be presented during the opening of the exhibition.

Klaudia Korbelič (*1990, Bratislava) completed her studies in the Studio of Sculpture 1, headed by prof. akad. soch. Michal Gabriel, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Brno University of Technology (2017). She has displayed her works at several successful group and solo exhibitions both in Slovakia and abroad. She lives and creates in Brno.
