The Jan Koniarek Gallery in Trnava introduces the exhibition of Juraj Kollár, one of the most distinctive painters of our time. It focuses on the most recent works, paintings made during the last years. Movement in several directions is typical for him, but at the same time it is focused - a sophisticated painting concept within which everything is linked. He is unique, neither the trend of irony pop, nor chocolate box art sarcasm of contemporary painting touched him, clear social commitment or own ego demonstration has nothing to do with his work. Is it the result of his apparent furtiveness and introvertness? Or is it rather internal stubbornness with which he goes towards his objectives, his concept of painting? Painting is his life, he is compatible with it, it is mental and physical way of his existence, he puts his existence into painting. It is about the research of opportunities given to him by painting not only as regards the subject itself, but also its transfer to canvas, to other language but mainly the subjective perception (a view from the ground, fixed point) and reality transmission by colours (the substantiality of colours or the insubstantiality of colours) and painting manuscript. Paintings he presents at the exhibition are of two cycles or typological groups: the latest paintings (sceneries seen through glass-concrete walls) and abstract compositions. Within the first group he uses the whole range of images from hyperrealism to the generalisation of a theme, in order to reach the illusion of vista he uses various components, building materials - objects from Baumax. Originally two-dimensional compositions gain new object veracity, matter-of-factness and spatiality. Abstract paintings present a counterpoint to these illusions - the enlarged detail of landscape or the fragment of composed painting or it is an emotion, spontaneous status created by painting. The majority of Kollar´s works are of a large size, almost like he wants to lose control over format limits, to link with the substantiality of colours as much as possible competing with it by its size, but he is able to reduce dimensions to a miniature, so that the visual input can be physically transformed and defined. The artist´s movements between these two positions, which can be in simple terms defined as binary concepts: subject- non-subject, realistic - abstract, displaying - not displaying, is quite natural, it could be said that temperamental.
