The solo exhibition of the Trnava female artist Marta Matejková Vjatráková (1990), the graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (VŠVU) in Bratislava, comprises a presentation of the installation named Solid, liquid, light II. in the area of the synagogue. For the first time, the installation was presented as a diploma work in the sacral area of the Chapel of St. John the Evangelist in Bratislava in 2016 and the author received the VŠVU Rector´s Prize for it. Her minimalist work consists of six panes of glass with an abstract painting and video presenting and elucidating the process of works using the specific glass painting technique. With the white, immaterially appealing trace on clear glass, the author has recorded the motion of a cord – its prints, phases of the motion, or touches of life´s materialization. The abstract glass paintings as if evoked breathing on a pane of glass, clouds of breath and their gradual emerging and disappearing. According to the author, they reflect metamorphoses of various atmospheric phenomena in the sky. Besides painting, the artist is also interested in the architectural layout of the panes in space which creates a road and evokes an impression of celebration, apotheosis of physical and spiritual motion. Reinstalling of the work in the synagogue in Trnava does not change the initial artistic intention, however, its characteristic space creates a different ambience to anchor the panes of glass which will contribute to a broader-minded and more sophisticated presenting the space layout. The new space will bring a different installation, but it does not depart from the initial intention of “unstable” provisional presentation emphasizing fragility and transparency of the material itself as a metaphor for the instability of human existence.

In her countless presentations, so far Matejková Vjatráková has adopted solely exhibition premises with a spiritual trace. This time, it is a challenge for her to bring and interpret her own author project in the Trnava synagogue, where site-specific works have been preferred for a long time. Except the mentioned installation, the author will present also a selection of the latest works in the form of a collection of “sweet” paintings. These are made with sugar on glass panes and result from observing phenomena in nature and in her surroundings – they are a touchy record of anticipated and uncertain things.
