On 22nd November 2007 two new gallery expositions were opened in Koppel villa of GJK. Atypical architectural and exhibition solution of building (coloured background, texts, spatial structure and lightening) create an interesting base for a new perception and reading of Slovak art development on the selected profile. Expositions of such orientation create a new museum platform and natural balance of gallery exhibition strategy which program-focuses on the presentation of contemporary visual culture. Gallery thereby watches strengthening its image of institution which collects artworks and gets closer to the widest range of visitors.

Renewed exposition called Ján Koniarek – founder of modern Slovak sculpture is located on ground floor. Exhibits represent key moments of Ján Koniarek (1878 Voderady – 1952 Trnava) creation. It is a chronological author’s creation cross section in years 1905 – 1949, from Serbian period (Portrait of the artist’s father, 1905) to last dated work Sitting L. N. Tolstoj (1949). In exposition we can find top works of chamber character (John the Baptist’s head, 1906 – 1912; Drinking man, 1930 - 1935), sculptures devoted to the war theme (Pro patria, 1914 – 1918; Voice of uprising, 1944 – 1945), portraits (Head of Karol Kuzmány, 1931; Andrej Hlinka, 1939 – 1940) and proposals for monumental realisations (Proposal for the Monument for the Victims of the World War I, 1927 – 1929; model monument of Anton Bernolák, 1936 – 1937; studies for railway station in Bratislava, 1939 – 1941).

Ján Koniarek works cross section is added by two quotations (of Ján Koniarek itself and Karol Vaculík) and author’s biographical data. Atmosphere of exposition is completed by several hanging pictures with old Trnava themes which provide a better idea of the environment in which the author lived and worked. Aim of the gallery is to realise exposition with tactile Braille, so touching the sculptures allow intense experience not only to blind visitors and children but also to professional public and students of arts.
