Lecture by Jan Zálešák: In the Mind of the Zombie Internet

April 15, 2026 at 17:00, Koppel Villa Library

Accompanying program to the exhibition Everything Falls Apart, Everything Comes Together by Michal Mižo Mitra

The lecture loosely follows the exhibition by Michal Mitra Everything Falls Apart, Everything Comes Together. One of the ingredients from which Michal’s exhibition emerged is “Italian brainrot” — a world of surreal characters and strange digital assemblages of commodities, objects, and animal and human bodies.

If we take a step back from this color-saturated phenomenon, we can see it as part of a broader set of so-called AI slop. This, in turn, can be understood as one of the manifestations of the gradual development of digital technologies and the internet into a state that provokes us to think of the internet as “dead” or “undead.”

The zombie internet is a world in which the hierarchy between the human and the non-human dissolves, and where we are just one — and an increasingly less privileged — group of actors. The lecture will be a brief excursion into artistic practices that take the zombie internet and its manifestations as their subject of interest.
