We invite you to a workshop in which visual artist Paula Malinowska will share her skills and present how she applies them in her own artistic practice. The workshop will also include a screening of Malinowska’s films that make use of 3D scanning techniques.
During the workshop, we will explore the basics of 3D scanning using photogrammetry, look at several examples of its use in artistic practice, and then begin experimenting with 3D scanning within the exhibition space of Park of Culture and Sighs. Participants will create 3D scans—recordings of the environment, installation elements, situations, or even one another—imagination has no limits.
The outcome of the workshop will be a series of 3D scans that will be “stitched together” in the 3D software Blender into a shared composition—the so-called “collective body.” This virtual composition will function as a digital 3D record of our presence within the installation. The collective digital scan will also become a digital artwork dedicated to the Cultural Union for further use (e.g., PR purposes, visual presentation, etc.).
Participants are welcome to bring their own laptop (with an SD card slot), on which we will install a simple program for generating scans. A camera will be available on site.
Paula Malinowska is a digital artist and photographer. Her artistic research reflects knowledge from biology and climatology, which she interweaves with elements of fantasy and fiction. Through the medium of 3D graphics, she explores the relationship between science and myth, rationality and intuition, striving to connect them. Paula Malinowska is one of the laureates of the Oskár Čepan Award in 2024. She has presented her work in solo and group exhibitions and events both in Slovakia and abroad, including in Budapest, Paris, Cascais (Portugal), and elsewhere.

The workshop is part of the Park of Culture and Sighs. At the core of the project at Galéria Jána Koniarka v Trnave is a mutable structure made of plastic crates filled with energy drinks—products that help us maintain constant productivity, fight fatigue, and deny our own limits and needs. The program consists of regular events—performances, discussions, support groups, and workshops—prepared through an open call by members of the Cultural Union.
The partner of the Park of Culture and Sighs project is KON-RAD spol s.r.o..
