It is often said that the world is a complicated place, full of threats lurking around every corner. They wait for individuals, collectives, and even the planet itself—often unnoticed until the moment they become irreversible. Yet the exhibition Resilience Assets addresses these societal perils, tied to the acceleration of late capitalism, only in part. Far more, it speaks of how we might face these consequences.

The three works by mid-career artists acquired last year by the Ján Koniarek Gallery for its collection show a profound awareness of the surrounding world and their own place within it. They draw from different forms of social critique, each leading toward a principle of personal activation. This asset—this contribution—is not some grandiose gesture, of the kind we have grown accustomed to today. Rather, it exemplifies resilience built through collective searching, dialogue, and appeals that encourage attentiveness. In doing so, they point to one of contemporary art’s key tasks: the practice of care.

The acquisition of these works for the GJK collection was supported by the Slovak Arts Council (Fond na podporu umenia).
