An Informal Information and Discussion Meeting within the Park of Culture and Sighs
What are trade unions, what are their possibilities and competences, and how can they help us? Many people see no reason to become members of trade unions, and in the context of current developments in cultural institutions, disappointment is often expressed that unions are unable to effect real change. But what can trade unions achieve in cultural institutions, or those that bring together freelancers working independently in the cultural sector? How could trade union organizing contribute to strengthening the cultural sector as a whole?
Everything you have ever wanted to know about trade unions (and especially the Cultural Unions) but were afraid to ask. We invite you to an informal meeting that marks the reopening of activities at the Park of Culture and Sighs after the Christmas break. A space for sharing information, experiences, and inspiration. Homemade refreshments, open arms, and strong union shoulders will be waiting for you—ready to defend cultural workers, or simply to lean on together while mourning the difficult state of culture in Slovakia.
Admission: free
The meeting is part of the Park of Culture and Sighs project. At its core, the Park of Culture and Sighs at the Ján Koniarek Gallery in Trnava is a mutable structure made of plastic crates filled with energy drinks—symbols of how we maintain constant productivity, fight fatigue, and deny our own limits and needs. The programme consists of regular events—performances, discussions, support groups, and workshops—developed through an open call by members of the Cultural Unions.
